Thought on Transformation ideas from Budst Teachings

Transformation of self is a battle for me in that in order for me to transform I must let go of who I think I am. So the I part starts freaking out saying "what the hell are you doing, can't you see this is killing me." So, what is this I ? Is it just a series of thoughts and experiences? Thought after thought, experience after experience, moment by moment aware of past and future but not being aware of the isness of the passing moment. Just being aware of the passing moment or sorroundings, or where your physical body is. There definately seems to be a conciousness or awareness that is consistent and unchanging.

Ben and Irv's

I now live in a town called Palmerton, near Blue Mountain Ski Area. I like this area, but I miss the places, and foods that I just can't find here.
One of the places I used to frequent two to three times a week was Ben and Irv's. Ben and Irv's is a Jewish Deli that had it's start in Philadelphia and then opened up a deli restaurant in Huntington Valley, PA. , which is north of north east Philly.
Anyway, I miss the the White fish and the Motza Ball soup. One of my favorites was the corned beef sandwiches, and I'm salivating when I mention them. Sometimes I would get the White fish salad.
Good service, and great atmosphere.

If you are on the Pennsylvania Turnpike get off on the exit for 611, Willow Grove and ask a store owner how to get there. It's not hard to find from there. The picture on the top right is the old location.

BEST PIZZA IN REHOBOTH ?

Grottos, Grottos, Grottos! That's what you hear if you ask many tourist at Rehoboth Bch. where they like to eat. I say hogwash! There was a time that I liked Grottos Pizza...when I was a teenager and they only had one or two locations. I don't know how many locations they have now? It seems that many businesses have a hard time with consistency when they franchise, though Grottos hasn't done a bad job at consistency, something seems different. It's still not bad pizza if you like their style of putting the sauce over the cheese with a hose. It's a unique pizza, and I think that is why I have eaten so much of it in my lifetime. Mainly though, it's because when walking down the boardwalk or Rehoboth Ave. it's extremely convenient to order a slice at the window. Normally the service is fast.

With this said if I were to pick a pizza that I like as the best pizza when hot out of the oven, it would be Nicolas Pizza. Just as a disclaimer I did work their for a summer when I was 15 and my sister was Joan and Nick's first waitress. Although I know and like the Caggianos, that's not why I frequent Nicolas with the family . They use multiple types of cheese and it's not greasy like Grottos. If you have extra, you can eat it cold the next day. The atmosphere is hard for me to describe, but it's filled with many repeat and loyal customers with a discretionary pallet. Many locals also, so it has a certain vibe that you can't get at the other pizza establishments in Rehoboth. Anyway, it's a really good pie, with a really uptempo atmosphere. There is only one location, so eating there is a special occasion for many folks. I know my family eats there a couple times a year as a table of 6 - 8 and it's always fun. Joan used to greet people at the door, and I still think she is doing that to this day, but I haven't been there since last summer. Nicky...... Joan and Nicks son, is running the restaurant and kitchen which is cool because it keeps Nicolas a family style and family owned and operated restaurant. So, Niccolas has a personal touch. You don't feel like a stranger, even if you've never been there before.

The close second in pie quality is Louie's. Louie's pizza is very good and the service is also good with that personal touch, or family owned, family style feel. I forgot there name, but know them by face. I've eaten there alot and if I'm walking down that side of Rehoboth Ave. which I don't seem to do as often I will grab a slice. We will also eat there mid day with the kids at a table for 4. You can fit more, but there isn't as much space.

I go back and forth from Louie's and Niccolas as far as taste and texture are concerned. Many people, especially some locals will make the argument that Louie's is the best pie. It's a close call. If this were a cheese steak review Louie's gets my vote for #1. They also have a great Pizza Steak. So, to wrap it up if you have a large party and want the best atmosphere combined with the best pie, go to Niccolas. If you want the best cheesesteak or have a smaller party and want a good pizza go to Louie's. If you are in a hurry or don't care about alot of grease on your pizza, and aren't much for ambiance, then go to Grottos.

THUNDERBIRD PIZZA BROOMALL, PA.

Most Americans have eaten alot of pizza. Some of us have never had a great slice. Some of us have never had a bad slice. More of us have had average pizza most of the time with an occasion horrible pie and an occasional fabulous pie. Same goes for steak sandwiches and you couldn't pay me to put cheese wiz on my steak sandwich. My Italian Grandfather would turn over in his grave if I promoted cheeze wiz. All you here from tourists is Pats, Ginos, cheesewiz, blah, blah, blah, well I know alot of other great places, but my new great place for a Pie and a Cheesesteak is Thunderbird .

While traveling to Rehoboth via the Blue Route I had to make a pit stop so I got off at exit 9, Rt. 3, Westchester Pike going southbound taking Rt. 3 west. Go less than a mile on your right and there it is.....Thunderbird.Hey, it's not in the city, blah, blah, blah...and I say so what, if it's good it's good and these guys give as much of the Philly feel as anybody. My son and I will start salivating 1o miles before we get their.

The other thing Dominic and I like is the ambience. There are pictures on the wall of Philadelphia Athletes, and I think mostly professional. The guys cooking behind the counter and the patrons will many times be talking sports, whether it's the Phillies, Eagles, or the Flyers. You can see all the action in the kitchen and the place is spotless. I like that, because some kitchens aren't so clean and you'll never no because you can't see the kitchen. Also, the waitresses give you great service.... with a smile. So, again the atmosphere is interesting and friendly, and if your from out of town driving up or down the Blue Route 476, and you want a taste of Philly and the ambience to boot give it a try.
